TIPS FOR YOUR LANDSCAPE LIGHTING
The following general guidelines and information should be considered during your planning and
construction phases of your new home. Perhaps the most important thing to remember is good planning
is priceless. An ounce of planning will prevent many pounds (equates to dollars) of labor. Reducing
labor time will reduce your investment expenses.
During the electrical phase of construction, have your electrician run a dedicated line to both
sides of the home using waterproof GFCI receptacles. You may want accent lighting in the back yard
to operate at different times from the front; therefore, have your electrician run a dedicated line
to the rear of the home.
Another important planning phase is the installation of sidewalks, driveway, patios etc. Prior
to pouring concrete or blacktop, place a PVC sleeve under the material. For the driveway, use a
minimum of a 2" PVC pipe and have approximately 6 to 10 inches extra than the width of the driveway.
Sidewalks also need a PVC sleeve to allow the electrical wires to run from one side to the other side,
which will allow the entire front to have lighting. Remember, in this and the pervious phase, a nickel
spent now will save dollars later!
Landscape lighting is not an important concern for this phase of your home; however, it will become
very important at the completion process. The following are important considerations you must resolve
for your lighting needs, wants and desires:
